imagesOn Sunday 25th September the Master exercised his right as a Freeman of the City of London to drive sheep across London Bridge without paying a toll[i], though he did make a substantial contribution to the Woolmens’ charitable Trust and the Lord Mayor’s Appeal. In 2013 the Worshipful Company of Woolmen revived the tradition for charitable purposes and now run an annual event which raises about £40,000. Representatives of nearly all the Livery Companies including several Masters participated.

[i] There is some mythology about this ancient right. Of course, all Freemen would have had the right to drive sheep across the bridge to markets in the City but only Freemen of the City could do so without having to pay a toll
