Following on from successful quizzes in 2016 & 2017, we are pleased to host the third Marketors’ Pub Quiz. This will be at a new venue: the private room in The Hoop & Grapes, the last remaining listed building on Farringdon Street.

We hope the various Committees of the company will put forward a team. Entries are also welcome from one non-committee team, made up of six individuals.

Due to the size of the room, numbers are limited to six teams of six members. Teams will be accepted on a first-booked, first-served basis.

The cost is £27 per person. A buffet supper and half bottle of wine (or soft drinks alternative) will be provided per person on the evening. The bar will be open for other drinks – charges payable.

We will also be holding a prize raffle on the evening to raise funds for the Marketors’ Trust, so please bring cash on the day.

The Hoop & Grapes pub has stood on Farringdon Street since 1740. The pub is built on the boundary of the pauper’s grave that once belonged to St. Bride’s Church on Fleet Street.

It stands opposite the site of the Fleet Prison, the debtors’ prison which hosted many clergy. Prisoners were allowed out on day release and in order to clear their debts many of the clergy hosted “no questions asked” weddings. These became known as “Fleet Marriages” and, in the 1740s, over half of all London weddings were taking place in the environs of Fleet Prison. The Hoop & Grapes benefited from these weddings, hosting many post nuptial celebrations.

Today, the pub prides itself on being a “real pub” serving traditional food and great ales. A warm welcome awaits the Marketors from all the staff and the pub cat, Guinness.

PLEASE NOTE: The room at the venue is up two flights of steep steps. Unfortunately, there is no lift for access to the room, nor is there a disabled access toilet.

Photographs will be taken and used for publicity purposes. If you do not wish your photograph to be taken please let the photographer who is covering the event know at the start of the event.
